Meet the team

Aimée Baker is the award-winning writer of the book Doe (University of Akron Press, 2018) and the subject of the documentary She. She teaches and writes about violence against women, true crime literature, and ethics in true crime writing. Her work has been Best American Essays notables and appeared in both print and online publications including Guernica, The Southern Review, The Massachusetts Review, and more. She has been an invited reader at universities such as St. Lawrence University, Arizona State University, West Virginia Wesleyan, and Utica College.  In addition to her work on she goes by Jane, she is at work writing a book of true crime essays.

Vanessa Cicarelli is a photographer and filmmaker living in upstate NY. She is the co-creator of the award winning documentary, She, about true crime writer and poet Aimée Baker and her book Doe. She was Vanessa’s first documentary film and she is currently working on two more, both featuring strong and inspirational women.   Aside from filmmaking, Vanessa and her husband, Jason, run a successful photography business and their work has been published in several magazines including Woman’s World, Simply Lake Placid, Photography Monthly, and many more.
